Revenue Estimation Methodology

How we estimate infoproduct revenue, and why it works

The Inspiration: BrandSearch

InsightRaider is built on the same principles as BrandSearch, a $110M company that estimates revenue for thousands of Shopify and Amazon stores.

Their work proved you can estimate digital product revenue within ยฑ20% accuracy by combining public data with the right algorithms.

3 Pillars Behind Our Estimates

1. Public Signal Scraping

We automatically collect publicly available data from product platforms:

  • Rankings: where the product sits in bestseller and trending lists
  • Reviews: total count and how fast they're growing
  • Ratings: averages and score distribution
  • Metadata: creation date, creator, category, price
  • Followers: creator's subscriber count (when available)

2. Web Traffic Analysis

We estimate product page traffic using third-party sources:

  • SimilarWeb API: overall traffic and where it comes from
  • Backlinks: count and quality of incoming links
  • Social signals: shares on Twitter, Reddit, etc.
  • SEO metrics: keywords, domain authority

Simplified formula: Monthly traffic ร— Average conversion rate ร— Price = Estimated revenue

3. Cross-Validated Estimation

We run multiple estimation methods and compare results:

  • Ranking model: how ranking position correlates with revenue
  • Reviews model: reviews-to-sales ratio based on known benchmarks
  • Traffic model: conversion rate applied to estimated web traffic
  • ML model: trained on datasets of products with confirmed revenue

Final estimate is a weighted average of all 4 models, adjusted by data availability.

Validation and Accuracy

Known Benchmarks

We test our estimates against products where creators have publicly shared their revenue:

  • Pieter Levels (Nomad List): monthly revenue posted on
  • Tony Dinh (DevUtils): revenue shared on Twitter
  • Marc Louvion (ShipFast): revenue reported on Indie Hackers

Margin of Error

We're targeting ยฑ20% accuracy on estimates.

โš ๏ธ Important Limitations

Estimates aren't guarantees. Actual revenue can differ because of:

  • Flash sales and promotions we can't detect
  • Organic vs. paid traffic mix
  • Seasonal swings
  • Dynamic pricing
